A homosexual man who has a blog on Sen. Barack Obama’s campaign website is suing two major Christian publishers for violating his constitutional rights and causing emotional pain, because the Bible versions they publish refer to homosexuality as a sin.

Bradley LaShawn Fowler, 39, of Canton, Mich., is seeking $60 million from Zondervan and another $10 million from Thomas Nelson Publishing in lawsuits filed in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, the Grand Rapids Press reported.

Fowler filed his claim against Grand Rapids-based Zondervan Monday, alleging its Bibles’ references to homosexuality as a sin have made him an outcast from his family and contributed to physical discomfort and periods of “demoralization, chaos and bewilderment,” the paper said.

He filed suit against Tennessee publisher Thomas Nelson in June.

Zondervan says that even if Fowler’s claim is credible, he’s suing the wrong party. A company spokesman told WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids that Zondervan doesn’t translate the Bible or own the copyright for any of the translations but relies, instead, on the “scholarly judgment of credible translation committees.”

U.S. District Judge Julian Abele Cook Jr. refused Monday to appoint an attorney to represent Fowler in the Thomas Nelson case, saying the court “has some very genuine concerns about the nature and efficacy of these claims.”

Fowler, who is representing himself in both lawsuits, says in his complaint against Zondervan that the publisher intended to design a religious, sacred document to reflect an individual opinion or a group’s conclusion to cause “me or anyone who is a homosexual to endure verbal abuse, discrimination, episodes of hate, and physical violence … including murder

Fowler alleges both Zondervan and Thomas Nelson, with its King James Bible, manipulated Scripture without informing the public by using the term “homosexuals” in a New Testament passage, 1 Corinthians 6:9.

He told the Grand Rapids TV station in an interview he wants to “compensate for the past 20 years of emotional duress and mental instability.”

Zondervan, he contended, is misinterpreting the Bible.

“These are opinions based on the publishers,” Fowler said. “And they are being embedded in the religious structure as a way of life

In my humble opinion, Fowler is a bit off his spiritual rocker.  He should just cut to the chase and sue God.  (didn’t someone do that?)   God has more money anyway.

Cara comes home from work talking about this woman who is in her thirties but chits all over the floor.  She then won’t clean it up, walks around the unit with a load in her pants, stinking like summer road kill.

This woman is married.  Cara doesn’t know how her husband does it, because he is young too.  We get to talking about wedding vows, the better or for worse part, sickness and health stuff.

 I tell Cara hey if I ever lose my mind and start to chit in corners, you have permission to leave my ass.  Just as long as it’s not when I’m 78 or something.

She says that she wouldn’t leave me.  That she would take care of me.  I tell her just stick me in the drool bin, and live life.  You’re not living life taking care of my crazy ass.

Then she asks does that mean you’d leave me?  I tell her hell no.  ‘Cause I’d enjoy the fuck outta laughing my ass off at her when she went bonkers.  As long as she didn’t claw her eyes out or something, I think it would be entertaining. I’d just put kitty litter on her bedroom floor.  Plus, I can always drop her off at some baby-sit the daft place and get some free time.

Of course the topic of sex comes up.  Would you want to have sex with a crazy person? She asks.

I of course want to know how crazy.  Like if you’re going to take a crap on me loony…no.  Or, if you’re going to bite me in places that don’t need to be bitten…no.

If meds can take care of it. Yeah.  If the voices tell you it’s okay. Yeah. 

Well what if I’m crazy like the lady at work?  Cara wants to know.

 I’m eating out.  I tell her.  You’d be too crazy to care.

 So, to make a long blog short.  I’m not sure what we decided.  I told her that none of us better lose their mind just to be safe.  We agreed that was the answer…so we don’t have to worry about anything like we talked about.

They have to convert our agenda into something aggressive. Two guys wanting to be happy together are invading their marriages. Helping a kid who’s getting beaten up in school is promoting homosexuality. If you gave me a million dollars, I wouldn’t know how to promote homosexuality. Do I hire Don King?

I’ve been fuddling around with this topic for awhile. Trying to think of ways to explain gaydar in a way that is explainable. My sister says she has gaydar, Kim does to an extent.  Sometimes she’s dead on, and other times not so much so.

 Sometimes I like to pretend my gaydar is broken.  Hey that lady has short hair, she’s a lesbian. Did you see the truck she was driving? I’m just ignoring the three screaming kids in the back seat and the man who is obviously her husband.

 When Cara, Kim, and I went to the wymyn’s festival in August Cara and I told Kim assume everyone is a lesbian.  We’ll tell you who’s straight. Is that reverse gaydar? There were only 5,800 lesbians, the other two hundred were straight.

What is that when I walk into the store I can spot a lesbian or a gay man a mile a way, but not someone who is bisexual?  Once while I shopping in the grocery store this woman walks up to me and says, “I don’t see much family around here.”  I just smile.

I’d never seen that woman before in my life, but just knew. She wasn’t dressed in boots, jeans and a wife beater. Just your normal, average every day attire. But she definitely liked to check out the bush to see what she could find.

Even when I was a teenager I had gaydar. I didn’t know what the hell it was or anything like that. I hadn’t learned how to read my gaydar system then. But I’d be walking along in the school hall way and ping, ping, ping…something would go off.  The girl and I would walk by one another staring each other down.

I don’t know what the stare down was about, just always happened. Maybe we were trying to figure out what the fuck was going on. Who knows, but in hind sight, that chick was definitely a baby dyke.

Now when ever the gaydar goes off I get tickled. It’s like seeing a rare spotted owl or some shit.  I don’t want to scare the lesbian off so I kind of ignore them and move slowly.  I don’t know what it is, but when both have gaydar and they are pinging, (outside a bar) it’s like pressing the wrong sides of a magnet together.  We just bounce apart.

I’m still trying to figure out how I ‘just know’ someone is gay or lesbian. Is it intuition, or something else?
