We all have favorite songs. I love to belt the choruses out when I’m in the privacy of my car where everyone can see what I’m doing.
Ani DiFranco Tis of Thee
my country ’tis of thee
to take swings at each other on the talk show tv
why don’t you just go ahead and turn off the sun
cuz we’ll never live long enough
to undo everything they’ve done to you
undo everything they’ve done to you
Ani DiFranco Angry Anymore
night falls like people into love
we generate our own light to compensate
for the lack of light from above.
every time we fight a cold wind blows our way,
we can learn like the trees, how to bend,
how to sway and say
i, i think i understand
what all this fighting is for,
and i just want you to understand
i’m not angry anymore.
no, i’m not angry anymore.
Melissa Ferrick Everything I need
And I got a floor to dance on
And I got a phone to laugh in
And I got a tub to cry in
I got a bed to hide in
Ohh but sometimes I only see what's wrong
And sometimes I'm convinced my God has up and gone
I'll never write a hit song
My love will leave me hanging
Everything I need is right here in my hands
Right here in my hands
Right here in my hands
Everything I need is right here in my hands
Right here in my hands
Right here in my hands
I got everything I need
Melissa Etheridge This is not Goodbye
Bravely you let go of my hand
I can’t speak yet you understand
Where I go now I go alone
This path I walk these days of stone
And the angels are calling
I must go away
Wait for me here
Silently stay
And don’t ask me why
Only believe
This is not good bye
All of my strength all my desire
Still cannot melt this breath of fire
I go to meet some kind of test
Bury the truth that scars my chest
And the angels are calling and calling
I gathered all my courage
I shaved off all my fear
With this banner on my shoulder
I hold your essence near
And the angels are calling and calling and calling.
Share with me some of your favourite songs. The ones you belt out in the car.

Oh man, I really love music. I like everything pretty
much. I sing along to just about every song I like.
Well, I don’t like that rap and hip hop. OH and
I can’t stand Hanson. That DO WOP song that they
sing….had to listen to that song through 3 lunches
(each a half hour) for 5 days. That’s a total of what
7 1/2 hours………
HUGS!!
Did someone say Ani? Don’t get me started. Oh no, too late.
Your Next Bold Move
coming of age
during the plague of
regan and bush
watching capitalism gun down
democracy
it had this funny effect on me
i guess
i am cancer
i am hiv
and i’m down at the blue jesus
blue cross hospital
just looking up from my pillow
and feeling blessed
and the mighty multinationals
have monopolized the oxygen
so it’s as easy as breathing
for us all to participate
yeah they’re buying and selling
off shares of air
so you know it’s all around you
it’s hard to point and say, “there”
so you just sit on your hands
and quietly contemplate
your next bold move
School Night (chorus)
you are miracle
and that is not all
you are also a stiff drink
but i am on call
you are a party
and i am a school night
and i’m looking for my door key
but you are porch light
I really just better stop now. I could go on for days.
But before I go, I almost forgot the song I actually took my handle from:
Swan Dive (chorus)
they can call me crazy
if i fail
all the chance that i need
is one in a million
they can call me brilliant
if i succeed
gravity is nothing to me
moving at the speed of sound
i just want to get my feet wet
until i drown
Okay, I’m really gone now.
Song is by Disciple it’s called My Hell
It’s not found in throwing roses on a grave
Or in the cursed bottom of a bottled plague
It wasn’t in the torment that will never fade
But I see the truth now
This was my hell living without You here
Even Heaven is hell if somehow You were not there
If You were not there
It wasn’t in the flames that won’t stop burning
Or within a fire that is never quenched
It wasn’t in the brokenness of all my failings
But I see the truth now
Lord, I need to breathe You
Drink You, dream You
Nothing ever will compare
Need to breathe You, drink You
Dream You, need You
your Hostess has a soft spot for the “white boys on synthesizers” 80s bands. Right now on the “roadtrip” playlist is New Order, Loverboy, Fluke, and Radiohead, and some mushy Sarah McLachlan, Beth Orton, and Amie Mann, topped off with Madonna’s new album. I sing loudly and know none of the words…I ride alone alot…
Thanks you all for sharing the songs that you listen to.
HOSTESS:—White boys on synthesizers. That made me laugh.
Oh my god. How do I even sort out all the music? Music courses through my veins.
Beatles: Strawberry Fields Forever, I am the Walrus, While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Basically, any number of their brilliant stuff after the start of the real hard-core drug use.
Just about anything from India.Arie. Yeah, she’s pretty hetero-centric. I ignore that. Anyhow, Prince. Gnarls Barkely. Jimi Hendrix. Tool Tribute Quartet. Ani DiFranco. Average White Band. Me’Shell Ndegeocello. 80s pop.
The last time I returned to California, escaping the Midwest where I was reviled, I latched onto Joni MItchell, who, though she was talking about Vietnam and her escape overseas, summed up my feelings about this particular land mass perfectly.
California (Partial)
Then Im going home to california
California Im coming home
Oh will you take me as I am
Strung out on another man
California Im coming home
Oh it gets so lonely
When youre walking
And the streets are full of strangers
All the news of home you read
More about the war
And the bloody changes
Oh will you take me as l am?
Will you take me as l am?
Will you?
JADE–Cara loves Joni. I live in the Midwest now, the south before that. The Midwest is better than the south.
Thanks for sharing your favorite singers/songs.
Lately:
I’ve had my moments, days in the sun,
moments, when I was second to none,
moments, when I did what I thought I couldn’t do,
like the day I walked away from the wine
for a woman, who became my wife
and a love that, when it was right,
could always see me through.
I know you might not see it now, but believe me,
I’ve had my moments.
I’ve had my moments, days in the sun,
moments, when I was second to none,
moments, when I did what I thought I couldn’t do,
like that cold night on the E Street Bridge
when a young man almost ended it
I wasn’t scared a bit
and I helped him make it through
Yeah, you might not believe me now, but
I’ve had my moments
