Work Out
I can’t stand Jackie Warner. Every time I watch Work Out on Bravo she pisses me off. I swear she is a train wreck waiting to happen.
I get it. She owns her own gym and has worked hard to get to where she is at in life. But I’ve come to the conclusion she’s and evil lesbian. I can’t think of many evil lesbians off the top of my head.
Jackie gives a lot of lesbians in the world a bad name. Every time I watch her show (which I watch because Cara enjoys so much) I bitch all the way through it. I think that Jackie is a law suite waiting to happen.
To me Jackie just epitomizes the stereotypes of being a lesbian. She moves in with her girlfriend after about three days. (U-haul anyone?) She makes out with every female staff she has, or wants to. Isn’t that some sort of sexual harassment? It doesn’t matter that the other person kissed her back, what matters is she is the boss.
I appreciate that Jackie is a strong woman. She doesn’t take any shit from anyone. But at the same time she always talks about how professional she is. Really? It’s professional to make out with your staff? To tell your clients and staff why you fired someone?
Yikes. I know it’s T.V. but does the show really need to show some of the stereotypical things that people think about lesbians? Why can’t Jackie just be drama free? Oh that’s right she wouldn’t have a show then and her ego couldn’t stand that.

Heh heh. I’ll just say I take guilty pleasure in watching Jackie, precisely because she’s an unprofessional, predatory train wreck. She’s extremely self-absorbed to boot.
It’s like watching a bad car accident each and every Tuesday night. A really nasty head on. Can anyone say narcissistic? As to her reinforcing people’s stereotypes, that’s not her responsibility or the networks to avoid, but the responsibility of people who would ever judge an entire group of people based on one person. Besides, I don’t consider Jackie a bad stereotype of lesbians but a painfully tragic example of a human being looking for something she hasn’t yet found….like inner peace perhaps.
JADE-I think I’m bad because I now watch to see her fail not succeed. That makes me a quasi evil baby dyke.
ANITA- The thing is when the bad crash happens I feel sorry for her. She is an example of someone who needs to find inner peace I agree. I hope she finds it before her train derails.
I agree with Anita- you can’t fault people for fitting into a stereotype. After all, if a great number of such people didn’t exist neither would the stereotype.
That being said… I’ve only watched the show a few times, but the times I did I just ached for her. I think somewhere under all of that ego and aggression there’s a woman who sincerely doubts her own worth and is trying to pad that with countable things (kisses, dollars, clients) and it’s just not enough.
How depressing.
Here we go again. Gay people have to realize that no gay person is perfect (neither is any straight person). Jackie Warner isn’t. A gay messiah is not going to come along to fix every prejudice there are against gay people. Ellen Degeneres is the closest thing and look how much support she has gotten from gay people when in “trouble.” Not much. Gay people are all for gay celebrities coming out but when they are having a tough time they can NEVER find support from gay people because they either abandon them or bash them.
This business that Jackie is a predator is hateful and unjust. Jackie has dated GROWN ADULTS. All the women can think for themselves. If they didn’t want to date Jackie they could have easily said no and she would have moved on. It takes two to tango. Most of this rhetoric revolves around Jackie’s relationship with Rebecca. According to Rebecca she is straight so who exploited who? Jackie did kiss Antonia, Renessa, and a client last season. I would not call kissing a sane grown adult predatory. With the exception of Rebecca all her girlfriends worked outside of SkySport.
The trainers (and Lisa the manager) you see on Work Out were hired to be on the show. Most are actors.
I give any gay person tremendous credit for being in the spotlight. I know straight people place all their ideas about gay people into that one gay person. Gay people look to them to be perfect. Having your life exposed and picked apart is never fun yet the challenge for gay celebrities is especially difficult.
I have seen plenty of negative reaction to Jackie (justly) firing Brian Peeler. Fitness is a male-dominated occupation. Here a few studies showing the perils women face in male-dominated occupations.

My partner LOVES that show, but I totally agree with the poster who said Jackie is a train wreck waiting to happen. First of all, she insults the clients of her “gym”, esp DeeDee, how does she expect to really build a REAL clientele by insulting the clients SHE doesn’t like, getting drunk on a cruise ship, making out with every single woman she sees? She’s completely unprofessional, and her attitude is everything is about her.
When Brian came to her expressing his concern for how DeeDee’s “trainer” was treating her, jackie fired him! It’s her responsibility to insure that ALL are treated equally. Were I Brian, I’d be telling everyone I knew to not patronize jackie’s little gym, until she grows UP. She acts like a kindergartner who is badly in need of a nap.
LINDSEY-I understand that stereotypes are there because people fit into them. I carry with me my own stereotypes. Much to my shagrin. I guess I just wish the media wouldn’t pander to them. I’m sure there is a female gym owner out there who blows the stereotypes out of the water.
I agree that Jackie on some level doubts her own worth. As Daniel pointed out it may be because she’s in a male dominated profession. I don’t know all she has been through, I’m sure when the cameras off she is a different person.
DANIEL–The thing that Jackie does as a supervisor isn’t professional at all. As a supervisor myself I have to be very careful about how I act and what I say. Because of the power of the position I am in. It doesn’t matter that the people around me are adults, what matters is if they feel like they have to do something because they feel as if I hold their job in my hands.
If it was a straight person or a male acting how Jackie does I would be just as peeved about it.
ALEX–I agree Brian was doing what I would was sticking up for his client as anyone should. I know there is a lot of history between those two but all Jackie had to do was listen. That’s all Brian wanted was to be heard.
She isn’t a train wreck waiting to happen. She is a flippin nuclear blast. Anyone who disagrees should just go out a weekend in LA and see how she acts. Briana is far to good for her. She is a disgrace to lesbians anywhere. She should stick to straight girls our community doesn’t want to be associated with this mess anymore.
DISPLEASED– Are you from L.A.? Your reply sounds like you have much stronger feelings than someone who just knows Jackie from t.v.
